the only option is the paint ! there isn't a manual tranny, they all had powerwindows. please correct me if I'm wrong, and add any input and thoughts This message has been edited by ed monahan on 12-21-2003 at 11:01 PM on a serious note: when looking at a Woodward or Black Tie...it will have a single pin stripe just above the body line of the hood, decklid & doors......all the TUBS are BLACK......so when opening the door or decklid you will see black under the body panel & a black fire wall under the hood.....Dr. Rue will have signed and numbered it (in the pin strip) in the center of the deck lid. You will need really good eyes to see it, yes, it is in the pin stripe and in a little darker color than the stripe. it would be very easy for someone to MAKE A FAKE, with the exception of the Dr. Rue signature, yes that could be done too, but I doubt they would do that. And one pilot car is rumored to NOT have the signature in the stripe If you truely want a special edition Woodward or Black Tie and it is signed you should be safe in the fact it is a real one. AND if you are not close enough to go look at it ask if any of the POA members would look at it for you. I would look at a car in the Indy area for you if you find one here. You may make a BIG $$ mistake! Best Regards and Happy Holidays Mike DQ This message has been edited by thedqman on 12-22-2003 at 07:46 PM Chrysler had an organized Woodward numbering process set forth for Dr. Ru as several of you have seen at CAAP. Post the VIN, shipped date and Dr. Ru Woodward # via PM and I will compare them to the date Dr. Ru numbered each vehicle up to car 112. I will also compare to my VIN, my Dr. Ru # and shipped date. It won't surprise me if there are 201 "Woodwards" 20 years from now vs. today's 151 + 2 promotion cars. I've already seen red Prowlers converted into "Woodwards" via software programs. I'm still trying to figure out Lotus. This message has been edited by NightProwler on 12-23-2003 at 09:42 AM well there are more AAR & Hemi Cuda's, SS (all kinds) and `32 3 window coupes than what any of the manufactures made. yes there are some clones. I have seen a woodward and Mike made the 1st Black Tie that I seen, my guess he has made it back into the black & silver cars they started life as. What to look for: Black Ties and Woodwards had a MSRP of $47,000 vs. $45,000 for all others. You could also cross check the VIN # with Chrysler to be sure? Also keep in mind that while there were no options, there are great differences in engine, suspension, and ride depending on the year model! This message has been edited by Black Tie 161 on 12-23-2003 at 01:40 PM WE PROWL: WOW! I didn't know that! My MSRP sticker is a base of $45K with $2K added for the Black Tie package. I really thought that's how it all went. On the other hand, you helped me by adding that the Woodward appearance package shows up on the window sticker. So either way, the window sticker will show if the car is the real deal. This message has been edited by thedqman on 12-24-2003 at 10:02 PM Please tell me how do I email Dr. RU? Wow Santa Brought me a Woodward for X-mass eve!!! WOOO HOOOOO! Is there a way to get a replacement window sticker?? I'm actually now part of the family!!!! firegabe Woodward #36 has a lower VIN than Woodward #31 meaning that the VIN does not bear any relation to the Dr. Ru #. 1-USA This message has been edited by condor on 12-30-2003 at 11:17 AM This message has been edited by dbudner on 12-30-2003 at 11:43 AM Firegabe I don't think the Dr. had any order to the striping. When I visited Conner Ave. Assembly Plant, the holding tank was filled with a couple of hundred Inca Golds, and the striping was hit and miss along the rows of cars. It seemed to me that he picked the desired order of how the cars were striped. JMOfiregabe how do I read the V.I.N.?? I want to know what color the car is supposed to be? What are the telltale signs that the car is not really a Woodward or a black tie any little tricks please!?!
Thanks
Firegabeed monahan The VIN does not tell you the color of the car, for sure. You can look in the owners' registry and look for similar vins and that should help you somewhat.
The vin directly before or after yours could actually be a VIPER, they shared VINs.
On the owners registry you can sort it several ways.
Click here to look at the vins http://www.prowleronline.com/ownreg/listprowler.php?sort=year%2Cvinsort&submit=GO CJ Ed is correct. Nothing in the VIN# reflects the color choice. The best possible way to check on the Woodwards and Black Ties is if it has (or lack of) the signature by Dr. Ru, who pinstriped and signed those models. WildCat as with all other VIN #'s.........LEFT TO RIGHT...... WildCat quote:

No way of telling you own a Woodward by the VIN. Buying a cloned Woodward/Black Tie may not be a major risk today but it may be in 15 years from now. WE PROWL The window sticker will list Exterior Color "Prowler Black Clear Coat Prowler Red Clear Coat". The Optional Equipment will have "Woodward Edition Group Two Tone Group $1500" and of course the vin number on the sticker will match the vehicle.
Mikethedqman Wild Cat,
On the Woodwards you may be right....
but on the Black Ties... they all started out life in Silver...soooo the Tubs are all Silver!
Firegabe, just because ther is no # in the pinstripe, dont be so fast to discount the car as not being real.
Post the Vin on the board and we will try to help you.
NightProwler Re: Woodwards, I have the exact dates that Dr. Ru signed cars 1 to 112. I don't know but I assume VIN 604120 bears a lower Dr. Ru # than does VIN 604250. Accordingly, the shipped date should bear some resemblance (within 30 days) to the date the car was signed by Dr. Ru. Not a perfect science but it is another verification check. WildCat It won't surprise me if there are 201 "Woodwards" 20 years from now vs. today's 151 + 2 promotion cars. I've already seen red Prowlers converted into "Woodwards" via software programs. (I am willing to bet money that anyone who bought a Prowler has saved the window sticker.) WE PROWL Wrong BT161. My Woodward was base priced at $42800, plus $1500 for the Woodward Edition Group option, plus $700 for destination charge, for a total of $45000.
Mikeed monahan I think it was discussed a long time ago that the VIN and Dr. Ru's numbers would NOT have any system. They were probably put into the shipping room in very random parking spots and he probably worked his was around the room. This is just my opinion and I don't profess to know how it actually worked. Mikethedqman Dr Ru invoiced Chrysler by Vin # for each car he striped.
The records are safe and every Woodward or Black Tie can be accounted for by date and Vin.
There are 3 Woodwards that are striped but not signed,
And 5 Black Ties. Hope this helps
Mike DQ maned monahan Mike, does the VIN and Dr. Ru number stay in line, or is it random? thedqman Ed I believe you are correct.
I spoke with Dr Ru and I believe he said he striped the cars in no particular order. Just as they were lined up.
He did have to hand in an invoice for the cars he striped to get paid , and hence he has the date and time AM PM that he did each car.
My memory is shot...that comes with age, but I think he told me part of his payment was the Last Woodward, with a matching trailer.
With his records, we can be confident of the authenticity of the 2 models!

I know they were not numbered, but would still be interesting to know. firegabe My Door says That it was built on 02/00 So I have no Idea how long it took him to stripe mine ALLEY CAT quote:

Trivia question for the old timers who met Dr. Rau:
Was he right handed or left handed?
